Five potential candidates to replace Neal Ardley at AFC Wimbledon

Steve Cotterill- He is available and an early frontrunner for the vacant role. The former Stoke City, Burnley, Notts County, Portsmouth, Bristol City, Nottingham Forest and Birmingham City boss knows League One inside out.

Darren Ferguson- The 46-year-old left Doncaster Rovers in June and is in the hunt for a new job. He has been promoted from League One twice before with Peterborough United. He would be a good fit for Wimbledon as he is experienced at this level and would be up for a survival fight.

Ian Holloway- He spent time at Wimbledon during his playing days and could he make a return to management with them? The ex-QPR, Leicester City, Blackpool, Crystal Palace and Millwall manager would certainly raise a few eyebrows if he moved back to the Dons.

Gary Bowyer- He would be a shrewd appointment by Wimbledon. The former Blackburn Rovers boss left Blackpool after just one game into this season. Bowyer guided the Seasiders to promotion from League Two in 2017 and kept them up in League One in the last campaign.

Simon Bassey- The 42-year-old has been placed in interim charge and is an option for the full-time role. He knows the club and first joined them at the age of eight. If he does well as the caretaker he may be considered.
