Player Ratings: Norwich City 4-3 Millwall

Norwich City beat Millwall 4-3 on Saturday afternoon after coming from 3-2 down with seven minutes left to stun Neil Harris and his side. Here Alex Grace rates the Millwall players following that late collapse.

Ben Amos: 7 – Amos played well throughout the game making some important stops in the first half in particular. There was nothing he could do about any of the goals. He also saved Teemu Pukki’s penalty in the second half. Rating: 7

Conor McLaughlin: 6 – McLaughlin came into the side to replace Mahlon Romeo who dropped to the bench. You can see why Neil Harris went with the Northern Ireland international, he was very good in the first half keeping the Norwich attack at bay. However in the second half the duo of Hernandez and Lewis caused him problems and that was evident in the first goal as he was caught out of position allowing the ball to come in and Pukki to score past Amos.

Jake Cooper: 6 – The old tactic of playing the ball to Cooper at set pieces worked again as the big centre half got up to head across for Tom Elliot to score the first goal of the day. That was his sixth assist of the season one that takes him above Messi in the assists table this season. A lack of communication between himself and Hutchinson led to the third goal.

Shaun Hutchinson: 5 – A mixed day for the Millwall captain. It is clear to see that he is still rusty after a long period out of the side. He was booked early in the second half and then risked a second booking when he collided with Canaries goalkeeper Tim Krul. There was an argument also that he should have gotten out to Leitner quicker before his shot found the bottom corner. He was caught sleeping at the end of stoppage time and that allowed Pukki in to score the winner.

Murray Wallace: 6 – Wallace has impressed since moving to left back against Ipswich. He was not able to get forward an awful lot on Saturday but his defensive work was very good and he has done more than enough keep his place in the team going forward.

Jed Wallace: 7 – Put back into the side after coming off the bench at Brentford last week. He was involved in everything Millwall did going forward. In the first half he had a number of opportunities to either put a teammate through or go forward himself. One chance comes to mind in the first half in particular when he was away but chose to find Elliott to his right when he should have gone through himself. He struggled to get into the game in the second half as Norwich improved. However, he did get Millwall’s third goal after some good work with Steve Morison.

Shaun Williams: 6 – Should have done better with Norwich’s first goal. Didn’t stand up well enough and was beaten too easily. As usual he pulled the strings for Millwall in midfield and his set piece delivery was good.

Ryan Leonard: 7 – Another good day for Ryan Leonard, he is yet to have a bad game for Millwall, he was tough tackling in midfield and got forward whenever he could. He also got back and helped out the defence when needed. All that was missing would have been a goal but he managed to do that as well, his quick reactions in the box saw the game level at 2-2.

Shane Ferguson: 5 – For the second successive week Shane Ferguson was unable to make a real impact in the game. Most of the attacking play from Millwall came through Jed Wallace meaning Ferguson was left out a lot if the time. He did his defensive duties very well and helped Murray Wallace out on a number of occasions. Something that Jiri Skalak failed to do with Mahlon Romeo at Brentford last week.

Tom Elliott: 7 – Tom Elliott has had a quiet few games against Wigan, Ipswich and Brentford but was a lot more involved at Carrow Road. He got up well to head past Krul for the opener and caused the two central defenders of Norwich a lot of problems.

Lee Gregory: 7 – The forward who has been superb in recent weeks was good again. His partnership will Elliott is not as strong as that with Morison and you could see that throughout the game as he couldn’t get near his strike partner. He held the ball up well and created chances for his teammates to get the ball into the box.

Steve Morison (Replaced Tom Elliott after 73 minutes): 6 – Morison who played for Norwich in the Premier League, assisted Jed Wallace’s goal and held the ball up where he could as well as winning various headers. He was left up top on his own towards the end after Gregory was replaced which now looks like the wrong decision.

Ryan Tunnicliffe (Replaced Shane Ferguson after 86 minutes): 5 – Never had a chance to get into the game after being introduced late in the game.

James Meredith (Replaced Lee Gregory after 87 Minutes): – Was also introduced late in the game and didn’t have a chance to have any real effect on the overall result.
