Millwall quartet receive international calls but one misses out

Millwall quartet Aiden O’Brien, Shaun Williams, Shane Ferguson and Conor McLaughlin have all received international call ups but Jordan Archer misses out on a place in the Scotland squad for the second time in succession. Archer also didn’t receive a call up for October’s internationals by Scotland manager Alex McLeish.

Archer has lost his place as Millwall’s first choice goalkeeper and was replaced by Ben Amos for the game against Swansea on the 1st September and was dropped completely from the match day squad for the next four games before returning to the bench in the 3-2 defeat to Sheffield United on the 29th September. Amos has now established himself as Neil Harris’s first choice goalkeeper.

Shane Ferguson has seen his Millwall career get back on track in recent weeks. He came into the side against Nottingham Forest at the start of October due to suspension to Jed Wallace and has been an ever present since. Scoring once and assisting twice. He retains his place in Michael O’Neil side. Conor McLaughlin who is Mahlon Romeo’s deputy at right back also gets a call up to the Northern Ireland squad.

Shaun Williams who has been an ever present in the Millwall side this season, made his Republic or Ireland debut earlier this year in the 4-1 defeat to Wales in the Nations League scoring the Irish goal.

Aiden O’Brien who is being kept out of the Millwall side due to Ferguson’s impressive form has also kept his place in Martin O’Neil’s squad. He also made a goalscoring debut against Poland earlier this year.

The Quartet could all face each other as Ireland meet Northern Ireland for a friendly in Dublin before both sides face crucial games in the Uefa Nations League.
