Sunderland fans react to Sheffield United’s interest in George Honeyman

Sheffield United are being linked with a January move for Sunderland midfielder George Honeyman, as reported by The72.

The Blades are looking for potential signings who can help bolster their squad ahead of their promotion push.

George Honeyman has emerged as a target for Chris Wilder’s side. The 24-year-old has burst onto the scene at Sunderland over the past couple of seasons and would give Sheffield United some more depth in midfield.

The 5ft 8inc man joined the Black Cats’ academy at the age of ten and rose through the youth ranks at the Stadium of Light. He made his first-team debut in a February 2015 FA Cup game away to Bradford City.

Honeyman had a loan spell at National League side Gateshead in the 2015/16 season before breaking into Sunderland’s senior side. He got his chance after their relegation from the Premier League in 2017.

He impressed for the North-East in the Championship last season despite their relegation to League One. Honeyman played 44 games in all competitions, chipping in with 7 goals.
