Experienced defender is favourite to replace Frankie Bunn if he gets sacked at Oldham Athletic

Experienced defender and Club Captain Peter Clarke is favourite to replace Frankie Bunn if he gets sacked at Oldham Athletic, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

Alan Nixon tweeted: “OLDHAM. Peter Clarke will get the first call if Frankie Bunn goes at any point.

Oldham Athletic fans are putting pressure on Frankie Bunn, after Stevenage produced a comeback in-front of their home supporters as they beat Oldham Athletic 3-2, leaving Latics 17th League Two.

It is understood that if Frankie Bunn gets sacked then Peter Clarke will take over as manager of Oldham Athletic.

Peter Clarke has been club captain since his arrival in 2016. Peter Clarke has won the Player of the Season award at Blackpool, Southend, Huddersfield (twice) and Bury in the 2004/05, 2008/09, 2009/10, 2010/11 and 2015/16 seasons respectively.

For Latics, Peter Clarke earned Player of the Season award for the 2016/17 season where he played a vital role in ensuring the club’s survival status.

Clarke spent time on loan back at Bury towards the back end of last season, but his return will provide vital experience in the Oldham backline.

Frankie Bunn’s negative tactics have seen Latics go 1-0 down in the first half of 5/7 home league games this season and haven’t won a single one. Against Port Vale, Frankie Bunn opted to playing Chris O’Grady upfront on his own, a striker who has scored eight goals in his last 126 appearances.

Bunn has also failed to get the best out of key man Jose Baxter, a player who has the potential to be the best player in League Two without a shadow of doubt. He also signed Giles Coke on a two-year-deal which was a big risk, as he has played 12 games in three years due injury. And surprisingly Giles Coke hasn’t featured most of the season due to injury.

Would Peter Clarke be a better option than Frankie Bunn?
