It was a scrappy start for Norwich City to this season, their opening five games seeing them win two but lose three. Mixed bag, as some would say.
However, since the last of those opening five games, a 3-0 home loss to an impressive Leeds United side, there’s been a massive turnaround in fortune for the Canaries.
Starting with a 1-1 draw against bitter local rivals Ipswich Town, Norwich have a record of eight wins, two draws and one loss in their subsequent 11 games.
It’s that form that has driven them to top spot, underlined by the emphatic 4-0 hammering they handed out to a stumbling Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough. That result underlined the born-again threat that Norwich possess.
After a goalless opening 45, the Canaries spread their wings and plucked the Owls to pieces. The increasingly impressive Teemu Pukki scored a brace (51′ and 62′), two goals which sandwiched one by Emiliano Buendia. The scoring was rounded off by German Dennis Srbeny, who scored his first of the season.
It’s been a case of from feathers well and truly plucked to plumage preened, as a resurgent Norwich have stolen a decisive march on the rest of the Championship. From realistically nowhere to definitely somewhere, Daniel Farke’s side have swept all but Stoke City before them – fully deserving their table-topping position.
It is a turnaround of great proportion, and one welcomed by Norwich City fans. If it was a cake for eating, then today’s dominating performance against Sheffield Wednesday was the cherry that topped it.
Going top is bound to generate some discussion across social media, that’s inevitable. Here’s what some fans have been saying over on Twitter:
WE ARE GOING UP

Being a #ncfc fan is an absolute pleasure at the minute. Appreciate some more simple minded fans want old school Mike Bassett 44(f’in)2 attack attack attack but this is what I’ve been asking for since long before Webber an Farke.

We are so much better as a team without Madders – never expected that! #ncfc

Another top class away day with such a great set of lads. Laughs from start to finish. Blessed to know such great people x

Forget the fact #ncfc are top (for now) an #itfc remain irrelevant. We’ve only lost once in 11 games an that was a ridiculous smash an grab 1-0 loss to stoke. Cracking stuff. Long may it continue. Really happy with the starting 11 we put out today even though it was a forced 11!

I *love* my football team. These are the moments why we do it, travel for hours, invest time and energy and emotion for our club. We might not get anywhere this season, but the last few weeks are what being a fan is all about. Bravo, win or die. So proud of the lads. #ncfc #otbc
