Norwich City ruffle feathers as Canaries fly to top of table

Three losses and two wins in their opening five games was indicative of their mixed fortunes at the start of this 2018/19 Sky Bet Championship season.

A particular humbling in the last of that opening quintet of games, a 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Leeds United, seems to have been a catalyst for the Canaries.

From feathers well and truly plucked to plumage preened, Norwich have stolen a decisive march on the rest of the Championship. Starting with a 1-1 draw against bitter local rivals Ipswich Town, Norwich have a record of eight wins, two draws and one loss in their subsequent 11 games.

It’s that form that has driven them to top spot, underlined by the emphatic 4-0 hammering they handed out to a stumbling Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough. That result underlined the born-again threat that Norwich possess.

After a goalless first 45, the Canaries spread their wings and put the home side to the sword. The increasingly impressive Teemu Pukki scored a brace (51′ and 62′), two goals which sandwiched one by Emiliano Buendia. The scoring was rounded off by Dennis Srbeny, the German scoring his first of the season.

Their climb up the table, after a rocky start, has been irrepressible, Daniel Farke really beginning to get the Canaries singing to his tune. However, hitting top spot is one thing, staying there for an extended amount of time is another.

Yet, Norwich City have shown that they are able to bounce back, it is this resilient nature that has taken them to where they are now. All they have to do is maintain this imperious level of form they are displaying and, well, they’ll be more than a handful for some, as well as an easy match over others.
