Under pressure Paul Clement having “sleepless nights” over team selection for Bristol City clash

Reading manager Paul Clement has admitted that he his having sleepless nights over the team selection for this weekend’s game with Bristol City.

Former Derby County and Swansea City manager Paul Clement has been coming under increased pressure over the past few weeks, as Reading’s Championship position worsens week by week. The Royals currently sit in 22nd place in the league on 12 points from a possible 45, two points adrift of Rotherham United.

Clement’s side have lost four of their last five games, and doesn’t have long to save his job as manager at the Madjeski Stadium. The 46-year old spoke to the Reading Chronicle prior to tomorrow afternoon’s game.

“I’ve been in this situation before where results aren’t quite right. So what do you do? Keep changing the system and players?

“I think I’ve got a really big decision to make about the line-up on Saturday, really big.

“It’s keeping me awake at night, not in a bad way, but there’s a lot of responsibility and I’m taking it very seriously.”

Clement went on to reveal that winger Mo Barrow will be back in the matchday squad tomorrow, after breaking club rules – leading to the former Swansea man missing three games.

“Minimum, Mo will be in the squad. The situation we had that led to him being left out for three games – in effect a week – has been resolved.

“I’m very happy it has been resolved and Mo is as well, as are his team-mates.

“He’s a good player for this club and I think he can help us turn the corner.

“The situation is resolved and as far as I’m concerned we move forward.

“All along I said I would keep what happened private because that is professional. We had a good discussion and when things are resolved they’re resolved. There are no grudges and we get on with it as a team.”

Clement also provided an update on the status of midfielder David Meyler, who has only played five times this season. The Irishman hasn’t featured in nine games, last playing in The Royals’ 2-1 loss to Sheffield Wednesday.

“David has had a difficult transition here and the games he played early on were not at the level I think he’s capable of.

“He’s still very much involved in our plans. He came back from the last international break with an injury, but he’s back training every day, he’s being professional, he’s a good teammate with good experience and leadership qualities.

“He’s frustrated he’s not playing but a lot of players are like that, it’s a big squad. They are not angry they are disappointed which is normal when you don’t play.”
