West Brom have joined the race to sign Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna, according to the Evening Express.

The Baggies sent a scout to Hampden Park on Sunday to watch the 21-year-old centre-back in action against Rangers in the League Cup semi final.

West Brom are looking for potential signings for January as Darren Moore’s looks to maintain his sides’ promotion push and McKenna has emerged as a target.

McKenna, who has six caps for Scotland, is being tipped for a big future in the game and has been linked with the likes of Celtic, Aston Villa and Hull City in recent months.

He joined the Aberdeen academy in 2013 and he made his debut in February 2016 for Derek McInnes’ side. He found it tough as a youngster to break into their first-team so he gained some experience during loan spells at Ayr United and Alloa Athletic.

McKenna then established himself in Aberdeen’s starting line-up last season and played 35 times in all competitions.

West Brom is a possible destination for him with it looking like a move south to England is likely in the near future. The Baggies were relegated from the Premier League last season but are aiming for an immediate promotion back to the top flight.

Moore’s side are currently 5th in the table ad are four points off Sheffield United at the top. McKenna would be an impressive coup for them in January, but they will no doubt have to face strong competition to lure him to the Hawthorns.
