Blackburn Rovers could be struggling for defenders for this weekend’s game against an in form Queens Park Rangers side.
Both Charlie Mulgrew (hip) and Jack Rodwell (back) had to be withdrawn from last Saturday’s 1-1 draw against West Bromwich Albion. The duo were replaced by Amari’i Bell and Lewis Travis – who are both naturally full backs.
Since his arrival at Ewood Park, Jack Rodwell has been utilized at centre-back on a few occasions by Tony Mowbray – providing another option at the heart of defence for Rovers.
Darragh Lenihan will hopefully be available for this weekend’s game against Queens Park Rangers, after missing the trip to The Hawthorns. The Irishman picked up a hip injury on Rovers’ 2-1 victory over Leeds United, but could return on Saturday.
However, 20-year-old right back Ryan Nyambe could make a timely return to the Rovers squad this weekend, according to the Lancashire Telegraph. After picking up a hamstring injury in Rovers’ 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest back in August. The defender is in line to make his return in an Under-23s game vs Liverpool’s youngsters on Monday night at 7pm.
Tony Mowbray will have defender Paul Downing available for selection if he needs to be called upon, potentially giving him the opportunity to feature n the first team – something the 26-year-old has done only twice so far this season.
