Crystal Palace showing interest in League One midfielder

Crystal Palace are tracking Southend United midfielder Dru Yearwood, according to journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter.

The 18-year-old is already a first-team regular for the League One side and is being tipped for a big future in the game.

Palace are looking to bolster their youth ranks over the coming seasons and will see Yearwood as a youngster who has the potential to play in the Premier League in the future.

Yearwood was born in Harlow and joined Southend at the age of 11 and progressed through the academy at Roots Hall. He was involved in their pre-season tour ahead of last season and broke into the senior side after it.

He made his debut on 8th August 2017 in an EFL Cup tie against Newport County and went onto play 28 games for the Shrimpers in the last campaign, despite being just 17 for the majority of it.

He has so far played six times this season and impressed in Southend’s last game away to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

Yearwood still has three years left on his contract with Southend having signed a new deal last season but they will face a major battle in holding onto him with the way things are going.

Southend United have produced some decent players over recent times such as Daniel Bentley (Brentford), Dominic Iorfa (Wolves) and Glen Kamara (Dundee). Could Dru Yearwood be the next to leave them with Crystal Palace showing a keen interest in signing him in the January transfer window?
