Steve Bruce linked with return to management with Championship strugglers

After his sacking as manager of Aston Villa, Steve Bruce has been linked with a return to management with Championship strugglers Reading, according to Birmingham Live.

Reading currently sit down in 22nd place in the Championship, after picking up another loss this weekend against Graham Potter’s Swansea City. Oli McBurnie’s brace succumbed to their 9th loss in 15 games, mounting even more pressure on manager Paul Clement.

Former Derby and Swansea manager Clement managed to keep The Royals in the Championship in a poor 2017/18 campaign, and look set for another relegation battle this season after picking up just 12 points out of a possible 45 in the Championship.

Speculation has been gathering regarding Clement’s future as Reading manager, and the club’s top brass are considering bringing in a replacement for the 46-year-old.

Despite the speculation, Paul Clement is remaining confident that he has the support of the club. He told Football London:

“I know as a manager I have to get results and I haven’t been recently. I work closely with sporting director Gianluca Nani on the sporting side of things – very close since he’s been in and he has been extremely supportive.

“I’ve always felt the club has been supportive of me and they want me and the players to do well. But’s it’s also out of my hands.

“I don’t go home worrying about that. I worry more about whether I get the team selection right, the tactics and working with the players as well as I can be.”

Current Bolton Wanderers manager Phil Parkinson has also been linked with the Reading job if Paul Clement is sacked
