Stoke City manager Gary Rowett has claimed that goalkeeper Jack Butland has the same attributes as current England number one Jordan Pickford.
Pickford starred for The Three Lions as they reached the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup in Russia in the summer and while Stoke City goalkeeper Butland was named in Gareth Southgate’s 23-man squad, he remained unused.
Butland was on top form as Stoke City won 1-0 at Bristol City this afternoon. The keeper pulled off a number of top class saves to ensure that his side returned to The Potteries with three points.
In the post-match press conference, Stoke City manager Gary Rowett paid tribute to his goalkeeper.
“He has made two world class saves and I mean world class saves” said Rowett when speaking to The72. “It’s not the first time he has saved us but it’s probably the first time that he has got us the win.
“It was a front row performance.”
Butland’s display at Ashton Gate is probably one of the best which anyone will see from a goalkeeper in the Sky Bet Championship this season. Rowett believes that there is little to separate his keeper from England number one Pickford.
The Stoke City boss added “I’ve worked with Jordan Pickford and I’ve worked with Jack Butland and I think that Jack’s got every attribute that Jordan’s got.
“I think Jordan is impressive with his distribution and is always going to be because he plays with such pace but Jack can do that also.
“That was as good a goalkeeping performance today that you’ll see in any division.”
Butland’s clean sheet at Ashton Gate was his fifth of the season in a Stoke City shirt.
