Ipswich Town have sacked Paul Hurst after a disastrous start to the season.

The 44-year-old has lasted less than five months at the helm at Portman Road. Here are five potential candidates to replace him, as reported by The72 earlier.

Hurst made the switch to Ipswich in the summer and was initially seen as a promising appointment. However, the Tractor Boys have failed to hit the ground running under his guidance and are bottom of the Championship after just one win in 14 games.

Prior to moving to Portman Road, Hurst got Shrewsbury Town to the League One Play-Off final and the Football League Trophy final against the odds last season.

He spent his whole playing career at Rotherham United before going onto have spells as a manager at Boston United and Grimsby Town before Shrewsbury swooped in for him in 2016.

Hurst guided Grimsby to promotion from the National League in May 2016 before leaving for the Shrews. He then kept them up in League One in his first season after turning around their fortunes.

It is a shame that it has not worked out for Paul Hurst at Ipswich Town but he will no doubt get another job soon based on his previous impressive work.

Here is how the Ipswich fans reacted on Twitter to his sacking today-
