Scunthorpe United midfielder Josh Morris could be facing up to six weeks on the sidelines if an X-ray reveals that the player has fractured his jaw.

The 27-year-old Preston-born midfielder was withdrawn in the 70th minute of The Iron’s 2-0 home defeat to Peterborough United at Glanford Park in this afternoon’s Sky Bet League One fixture.

Scunthorpe United boss Stuart McCall told The72 after the match that there are initial fears that Morris has fractured his jaw with the player set to be sent for an X-ray to confirm the injury.

Morris could be a huge miss for The Iron with the player having been influential in his two seasons with the club. The midfielder had never hit double figures for goals in his career before moving to Glanford Park but has scored on 20 and 11 occasions in his first two seasons in Lincolnshire.

The player has already made 14 appearances for Scunthorpe United this term in which he has netted four goals. With Scunthorpe United looking to build momentum and push for the play-offs in Sky Bet League One, the club cannot afford to be without one of their star players possibly until the end of November.

Manager McCall struggled to name a squad of 18 players for the fixture against Peterborough United and he continues to be troubled by the club’s lengthy injury list.
