Five things we learned from Barnsley’s 3-2 win over Luton Town

Barnsley beat Luton Town 3-2 at Oakwell this afternoon, as covered by The72. Here are five things we learned from the game-

Barnsley are title contenders- These are the types of games you need to win if you are to gain promotion. The Tykes are looking strong at the moment and have players with genuine quality at this level. The likes of Brad Potts, Cameron McGeehan and George Moncur stood out today and could all easily play in the Championship.

Stendel is the real deal- Eyebrows were raised when Barnsley turned to the former Hannover boss in the summer but he has impressed. His attacking style of football and high press has made the Tykes a force to be reckoned with in League One in this campaign. Stendel’s decision to bring on Mamadou Thiam today was a masterstroke as he came on and scored the decisive goal.

Williams has bright future- 19-year-old Ben Williams played for Barnsley again today and put in a solid performance. He looks to have a bright future ahead of him in the game and is likely to be seen playing regular first-team football at Oakwell a lot now.

Defensive frailties for both? Both Barnsley and Luton may be disappointed that they conceded goals. Even though Stendel’s side won today, they still let in two goals at home so this needs to be addressed. Luton will be disappointed with the goals they conceded too and Nathan Jones will want his defence to be stronger next time out.

Luton will do well- The Hatters have made an impressive start to life in League One and did cause problems for Barnsley. They have some decent players and could be in and around the top half by the end of the campaign. If they keep strikers James Collins and Danny Hylton fit, they will always score goals.
