West Brom have been heavily linked with Blackburn Rovers playmaker Bradley Dack since Rovers’ promotion to the Championship. However, Rovers’ Chief Executive Steve Waggott has reiterated the club’s determination to keep their star man.
The Sun linked West Brom with a massive £20m move for Blackburn Rovers star Bradley Dack over the past few days, after seeing a bid rejected in the summer transfer window. The playmaker adapted to life in the Championship brilliantly, scoring six goals and picking up two assists in nine Championship games.
However, playmaker Dack only signed an improved three-year deal in the summer, and Blackburn Rovers will be reluctant to let their star man leave for any price, let alone the £20m being reported.
Chief Executive Steve Waggott spoke to the Lancashire Telegraph about the interest in Dack, and reiterated the club’s standpoint over the speculation surrounding their top scorer.
“We had a few offers for Dacky which were well chronicled and we have to keep our best players and build around them,” Waggott said.
“It shows we respect the efforts they have put in for the club, keep them highly motivated and lock them in.”
“I’ve been at clubs where every year you can have more than half of the squad turning over and it’s a big ask starting from scratch and the manager has to impose his DNA on the group.
“We’re trying to rebuild the club to help us progress and with a stable platform of players.”
Dack is one of many senior players to have signed new long-term deals in the summer, along with Darragh Lenihan, Derrick Williams and Richie Smallwood. Waggott also revealed the club have entered negotiations with captain Charlie Mulgrew and midfielder Corry Evans over new deals. Talks with manager Tony Mowbray over a new contract will also take place in the next International break in November.
