Former Reading duo Nicky Shorey and Glen Little have been appointed as the new management team at Wingate and Finchley FC, as confirmed by their official website.

The ex-Premier League players have both taken their first step into management with the Isthmian League side.

Shorey, who made two caps for England in his playing days, is a familiar name among English football fans. The left-back played for the likes of Reading, Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion, Fulham, Bristol City and Portsmouth.

The 37-year-old left Pompey in 2015 to join Indian Premier League side Pune City but returned to England after a year to end his playing days with stints at Colchester United and Hungerford Town.

Shorey then joined the coaching staff at League Two side Stevenage in October 2016 and has been working under Darren Sarll ever since but will now be looking forward to taking charge of Wingate and Finchley.

He will be joined by his former Reading teammate Glen Little in the dugout. The 42-year-old also played for teams such as Burnley, Portsmouth, Bolton Wanderers and Sheffield United as a winger in his playing days. He played just under 500 games in his career.

Little retired from playing in 2014 and has since held coaching roles at Welling United and Grays Athletic. He will be hoping that he and Shorey can get Wingate and Finchley promoted this season and that they start making a name for themselves as managers.
