Hull City have started the season slowly and currently prop up the table down in 24th place, but it is at the other end of the table that manager Nigel Adkins has made his predictions.
“We had three close games” said Hull boss Nigel Adkins. “Middlesbrough who we drew with, Leeds United on Tuesday, and Sheffield United (on Saturday). They are three teams who I think will get promoted this season. Three good sides”.
Hull boss Adkins made his predictions when reflecting back on his sides draw at home to Middlesbrough last weekend, and claims that Tony Pulis’ side will be up there come the end of the season, saying: “Middlesbrough are well equipped in what they go and do.”
Pulis’ side had the chance to go top of the table following Leeds’ draw against Brentford, but slipped up at home to Nottingham Forest, losing 2-0.
Leeds’ draw means they keep pace with those at the top however, and currently sit in third place. Marcelo Bielsa’s side are another that Adkins has tipped for promotion, but he did question that with such an intensive pressing game, whether the whites can maintain their fitness levels, especially with quite a small squad at Bielsa’s disposal.
“Leeds, whether they can keep everyone fit is the other side of it, but some of the football they play is really good”, said Adkins.
The Hull City boss was a previous employee of Sheffield United, managing the side between 2015 and 2016 in League One, and he has backed his former-side to push for the automatic spots this campaign. United currently occupy first place in the table, one point above West Bromwich Albion.
“And Sheffield United are now well equipped. They have an excellent manager, an excellent group of players and are going to be able to deal with injuries. They have got a real passionate support who will get behind them.”
