Peterborough United were on the end of an to brilliant performance from Barnsley, who struck four past Posh and inflicted to them to a fourth game without a win in front of their home crowd.
Goals from Jacob Brown, George Moncur and a brace from Brad Potts served up a 4-0 win for Barnsley at London Road against Peterborough United on Saturday afternoon.
The game got off to a perfect start for Posh, as both striker Ivan Toney and winger Joe Ward were fouled inside the box. Ivan Toney stepped up to take the spot kick, but ‘keeper and captain Adam Davies made a strong save to keep the scores at 0-0. Just a minute later, Barnsley punished Peterborough for missing their opportunity to go 1-0 up. Former Peterborough United player George Moncur put the ball in from close range after Kieffer Moore’s effort was blocked.
Aaron Chapman made a great save to stop Barnsley from making it 2-0 10 minutes later, as Mike Bahre found space inside the penalty area.
Before the break, Marcus Maddison committed a foul, and Brad Potts struck home the free-kick from long range in added time to put the Tykes 2-0 up going into the break.
Defender Dimitri Cavare had a great chance to score a third shortly after the restart, but fired over inside the box. However, it wasn’t long before Brad Potts made it three from the edge of the box with 59 minutes on the clock.
Posh striker Matty Godden had a header cleared off the line with a few minutes remaining, before first half substitute Jacob Brown put the cherry on the top of the cake with a powerful drive into the bottom corner in added time.
The win leaves Posh winless in three, as Barnsley edge closer to the automatic promotion places, sitting in 4th place. The Tykes are level with Walsall and two points behind today’s opponents Peterborough.
