Aston Villa fans endured a dramatic night on and off the pitch last night at their side’s 3-3 draw with a struggling Preston, and only a late goal from winger Yannick Bolasie spared Villa the embarrassment of being only the second team to be beaten by Preston this season.
Glenn Whelan missed the chance to seal all three points for 10-man Aston Villa in a frantic game off football, which saw Villa blow a two-goal lead after James Chester’s second half red card and manager Steve Bruce have a cabbage thrown at him prior to kick off.
However – despite all the drama on and off the pitch – defender Alan Hutton’s performance stood out for all the wrong reasons. Naturally a right back, Hutton was deployed at left back instead, while Ahmed El Mohamady played on the right side.
Aston Villa fans had their say on the former Spurs defender’s dismal display on Twitter:

Even by Hutton's standards he's been absolutely horrific tonight. #AVFC

Alan Hutton is NOT a left-back. I repeat. Not a left-back. The bloke is as useful as a chocolate fire guard. Spends more time out of position than anyone. But he shows PASSON so it’s fine….#AVFC

Look at Hutton defending for that corner and it’s not the first time. The guy is a liability #avfc
