Why Stoke City should re-sign Robert Huth on a free transfer

Experienced defender Robert Huth is still a free agent and looking for a new club.

The German centre-back left Leicester City at the end of last season and here is why his former club Stoke City should re-sign him now.

Shaky defence

The Potters have made a slow start to life in the Championship following their relegation from the top flight. Part of the reason why is because they have conceded too many goals. Promotion has to be the aim for Stoke but they will not be able to mount a promotion charge if the defence stays the way it is. Something has to change and signing Huth back would tighten up their backline.

Experience

Huth, who is 34 years-old, won the Premier League title two years ago with Leicester City and it was his solid displays at the back alongside Wes Morgan which laid the foundations for that historic season. The 6ft 3inc man has played over 400 games in his career for the likes of Chelsea, Middlesbrough, the Potters and Leicester as well as getting 19 caps for the German national team. This experience would come in handy if Stoke were to re-sign him.

Knows the club

Huth joined Stoke in 2009 from Boro and became an instant hit. He played 188 games for them in all competitions and was a key player in helping them establish themselves in the Premier League. He was also part of the Stoke side who got to the FA Cup final in 2011. He knows the club inside out and knows what it takes to play for Stoke. This would make him an important player in the dressing room and a leader for Gary Rowett’s side.
