Sheffield Wednesday are being linked with a shock move for Chelsea defender Gary Cahill, as reported by The72 yesterday.
Fellow Championship side Aston Villa are also being linked with the England international who is considering his future in the Premier League.
The 32-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea under their new boss, Maurizio Sarri, and could leave them in the January transfer window for a cash sum with his contract expiring at the end of the season.
Cahill, who has made 61 caps for England, supported Sheffield Wednesday in his youth and could end up playing for them in the latter years of his career. He started his career at Aston Villa before spells at Burnley and Sheffield United on loan.
He was snapped up by Bolton Wanderers in 2008 and spent five years with the Trotters before joining Chelsea for around £7 million in 2012. He has since played 284 games for the London side and won the Premier League title twice, the FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League and Europa League during his lengthy spell at Stamford Bridge.
His time at Chelsea looks to be coming to an end with him wanting more first-team football. A move to his boyhood club Sheffield Wednesday is a possibility and here is how their fans have reacted on Twitter to the rumours-
If Wednesday manage to get Gary Cahill in January put your mortgage on us going up #swfc

And on a completely unrelated note, Gary Cahill to #swfc? If we can afford him then I'm 100% behind this https://t.co/tXmgAYCNiB

He’s a Wednesdayite, but it’s never going to happen. We wouldn’t be able to afford his right leg
