Demerai Gray’s injury could impact West Brom’s promotion hopes

West Brom have enjoyed a promising start to life back in the Championship, with Darren Moore’s men sitting in third and growing stronger and stronger with each game that passes. The Baggies are top-scorers in the Championship, with 22 goals from their opening nine games, and on-loan Leicester City man Harvey Barnes has played a big part in that.

Barnes’ time at the Hawthorns, however, could potentially be cut short, with Demarai Gray suffering substantial damage to his ankle ligaments in Leicester’s Carabao cup tie with Wolves. The England winger required oxygen as he was stretchered off to ease the pain and if Gray’s injury is as bad as it first seems, it could spell bad news for West Brom.

The Express & Star have indicated that Gray’s injury could force the Foxes to recall the winger in January from his loan at the Hawthorns, just as they did last season with Barnes impressing at Barnsley.

If Barnes continues his exceptional form in the Championship, they’ll be no doubt that he could push for a start at the King Power Stadium. The attacker has contributed three goals and three assists in 11 appearances for the Baggies this season as the 20-year-old continue’s to add to his ever-growing CV.

West Brom have adjusted to Championship life with ease, which many relegated sides have shown in the past is never easy, just ask Sunderland and Wigan fans.

Much of West Brom’s early success is down to their recruitment under Darren Moore, as well as Barnes, Sam Johnstone has proven to be a sound acquisition in goal and when you have Dwight Gayle up front, you’re always bound to find goals.

Moore’s men continue their Championship campaign with a trip to strugglers Preston at the weekend.
