Former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Sean Clare is expected to join Scottish Premiership club Hearts this week with the player having trained with The Jambos according to The Scottish Sun.

The 21-year-old Wednesday academy graduate rejected the opportunity to extend his stay at Hillsborough in the summer and left the South Yorkshire club at the end of his deal.

Clare had been linked with a move to Aston Villa but no deal with forthcoming and it has now been revealed that the player is expected to join Scottish Premiership leaders Hearts this week after impressing manager Craig Levein during a period training with the Tynecastle club.

The midfielder joined Sheffield Wednesday in 2016 after leaving the Nike Academy and Clare went on to make five first team appearances for The Owls in which he scored one goal.

With Clare largely out of favour at Hillsborough, the player was loaned out by Wednesday on three occasions. The youngster enjoyed a short loan spell with Bury towards the end of the 2015/2016 campaign before spending the second half of the following season at Accrington Stanley. Clare’s final loan spell saw him move to Gillingham for the first half of last season before being recalled by The Owls.

Wednesday manager Joe Luhukay handed Clare his first team debut in his first game as manager in a goalless draw at Sheffield United in January. The player failed to make a significant impact at Hillsborough throughout the remainder of the campaign and opted to move on rather than bide his time for opportunities with Sheffield Wednesday.
