Midfielder Conor Hourihane’s stunning injury time free-kick rescued a point for Aston Villa as they drew 1-1 with Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.

An end-to-end match saw the home side take a 76th-minute lead when Bradley Dack diverted the ball into the far corner of the net from close range.

Villa looked to be down and out until midfielder Hourihane whipped in an expertly taken free-kick to rescue a point for his side and spark wild celebrations from the club’s sizeable away following.

The result leaves Villa in 12th position with 10 points and ends a run of consecutive defeats in league and cup. After the match, fans took to Twitter to hail Hourihane’s wonder-strike.

Aston Villa are now without a win in six matches in all competitions, although they have the luxury of back-to-back home fixtures against Rotherham United and Sheffield Wednesday coming up.
