Leeds youngster set for full debut at Millwall after international debut last week

Leeds United are having an injury crisis, but compared to other years one thing stands out, Marcelo Bielsa. If he trusts the squad he has then so should we, but many are sceptical given the individuals that are out. Today isn’t the ideal game, or maybe it’s the perfect game.

The main concern is the striker situation which has unravelled remarkably in the last week. First Patrick Bamford was injured playing for the under 23’s, an injury that will keep him out until at least the new year. Just days later Marcelo Bielsa conformed that Kemar Roofe would be missing for around three weeks, possibly more. On top of this there were others all through the pitch, Pablo Hernandez, Gaetano Berardi and Jamie Shackleton all out, the latter the only who could return next week.

Tyler Roberts seems like the player who will get his chance. If you’re looking for the positives of the situation then it’s pretty clear, opportunity for certain players who were struggling to get a chance. Tyler Roberts is one of those. Ideally Roofe would be fit, but Roberts is a £2.5 million player who was otherwise struggling to get a chance. This may well provide more competition in the long run. Roberts has barely had the chance to impress.

Roberts was a part of the second XI Marcelo Bielsa put out during pre-season and was one of the players who really impressed. His goal (above) was a glimpse of what he can produce given the chance, and more of that would certainly lead to him leaving his mark. He has made his first two senior Wales appearances in the last international break, both off the bench under new boss Ryan Giggs.
