Preston North End ace addresses ‘work in progress’ season

Preston North End star Tom Barkhuizen has hailed claimed Preston are a “work in progress” in an interview with the club’s official website, following a fairly bleak start to the Championship season.

The Lilywhites have won just one of their first six Championship games this season and sit 19th in the table, just a single point clear of the drop zone as they prepare to take on Reading at Deepdale this weekend.

Talking about Preston’s frustrating start to the season, winger Tom Barkhuizen said, “At the moment we are probably a bit of a work in progress where we are trying to find that balance, trying to figure it out, and hopefully during this break we can work on things tactically and start getting ourselves up the table.”

“At the start of the season we could play 11 versus 11 and have subs on both teams; now we have gone out, are going out and doing an 8 versus 8 and are pretty bare.”

Looking forward to this clash with bottom of the league Reading, the forward said “I don’t think you can underestimate anyone in the league. Look at ourselves, we are down in 19th and no one will be looking at us thinking we are a poor team.

“We face every team as if it is a team that is going to be fighting for promotion because that’s how tight this league is.”
Victory on Saturday could see North End rise as high as 14th in the table, while defeat could see them drop into the bottom three for the first time this season.
