Preston North End star comments on international debut pride

Preston North End star Callum Robinson has spoke about his pride following his international debut for the Republic of Ireland in the week against Wales.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Robinson said “I’m really happy and grateful to be given the opportunity to be involved, let alone start the game, it was obviously a proud moment for me and my family. It was a disappointing result but I’m really happy.”

“I would have been happy to just be involved but then to start in the first game, and it wasn’t just a friendly either it was an important game, it just shows the faith the manager has got in me and that’s what I have been training and working hard for so I’m really grateful to be given a start like that.”

The 23-year-old forward has enjoyed a solid start to the season at Deepdale, having bagged a goal and an assist already this term, but failed to convert a decent chance on his international debut.

Despite that, the forward looks back fondly on his performance: “When I got the ball I was trying to be as creative as possible, we didn’t really have a lot of the ball so it was hard to show everything that I have got but I think throughout the game with everything that I did, I probably should have scored, but other than that I think my game wasn’t too bad for my debut.”

With Preston set to take on Reading this weekend, attention for the versatile striker will now have turned to preparation for Saturday’s clash.
