West Brom loan star faced with potential Chinese Super League switch

West Bromwich Albion’s loan star Dwight Gayle is being faced with an attractive permanent route out of parent club Newcastle United, with a potential switch to the Chinese Super League on the cards.

According to the Sunday People, the striker is subject to heavy interest from several Chinese Super League clubs, some of whom are willing to table wages in excess of £200,000 per week to land the services of the 28-year-old.

The former Crystal Palace man has endured a solid start to life at the Hawthorns after making a loan switch late in the window, which saw Solomon Rondon head the other, notching three goals in five appearances for the Baggies in the league so far this term.

However, with Rondon’s contract running out at the end of this season and Joselu and Ayoze Perez both representing better options in the eyes of manager Rafa Benitez, it’s unclear whether Gayle has a future at Newcastle beyond the end of this season.

So with interest from overseas apparently strong, Gayle may soon have a decision on his hands as to whether to stay in England and fight for his place in the side at Newcastle or make the move to China and pick up a bumper pay-packet.

For now though, the 28-year-old striker’s thoughts will remain largely on the task at hand with West Bromwich Albion in the Championship, who have endured a solid start to life back in the second tier under Darren Moore following their relegation back to the second tier last term.
