Hull City set to beat Sheffield United to signing of Middlesbrough winger

Hull City are set to sign Middlesbrough winger Marvin Johnson on loan, according to Sky Sports.

The 27-year-old has been in talks with Championship side Sheffield United recently but now looks set to complete a late deadline day loan switch to Hull instead.

Johnson was the subject of interest from Hull last summer but ended up joining Middlesbrough from Oxford United. However, he played just 18 times for them in the league last season and has fallen down the pecking order under Tony Pulis.

He has previously played for Solihull Moors, Kidderminster Harriers, Motherwell and Oxford and would be a shrewd loan signing for the Tigers if they can get it over the line. Johnson would offer their manager, Nigel Adkins, with more options and depth in his squad.

Hull City are having a busy day today as they look to bring in three or four new signings. Aston Villa defender Tommy Elphick is having a medical in Cottingham at the moment, whilst they have also been in talks with Derby County striker Chris Martin.

There will also be an outgoing at Hull today, with Poland international winger Kamil Grosicki set to join Turkish Super Lig side Bursaspor on a two-year loan deal, which will effectively draw an end to his career in East Yorkshire.

It appears that Marvin Johnson will be Grosicki’s replacement and the Tigers have until 5pm this afternoon to get a deal done for the Boro winger.
