Chelsea starlet striker heading to League One Scunthorpe United

According to Alan Nixon, writing in The Sun, Chelsea are to loan starlet striker Ike Ugbo to League One side Scunthorpe United.

It will be a move that the talented Ugbo is accustomed to, having spent similar loan moves away from Stamford Bridge last season at Barnsley and MK Dons. The thinking behind the move is that new Irons boss Stuart McCall will be able to provide the England Under-20 youngster first team football.

The youngster has appeared for Chelsea’s Under-23’s side in this season’s Checkatrade Trophy, scoring in a 4-0 defeat of Swindon Town. Ugbo, yet to make the breakthrough into a stellar Chelsea line-up ahead of him, has been a regular for the Under-23s at Stamford Bridge. He’s featured 32 times for them in the Premier League 2 competition (15 goals/3 assists) in addition to 15 appearances (10 goals/1 assist) for the Under-18s.

There are goals in the youngster too, as evidenced by his loan spells last season. In his time at Barnsley (16 games), Ugbo scored one goal and provided one assist. In a similar spell at MK Dons in League Two (15 games), the youngster scored twice.

Scunthorpe currently sit in a lowly 18th position, with just one win from their opening five games. Bringing in the Chelsea youngster, who is still only 19, will be a welcome addition to the Iron, whose five goals this season so far is a total that needs to be built up are Scunthorpe to move up the table.

With the loan deadline tomorrow, Scunthorpe need to get the wheels in motion quickly to ensure that they are able to kick on from now until January when the transfer window opens again.
