Leeds United confirm striker loan departure

Sky Bet Championship side Leeds United have today confirmed that out of favour striker Caleb Ekuban has left the club. The 24-year-old Ghanaian has penned a season-long loan switch to Turkish side Trabzonspor.

The former Chievo Verona forward is yet to make an appearance in the first-team this season under new head coach Marcelo Bielsa, who soon quickly identified that Ekuban would have not feature in his plans. Players such as Vurnon Anita and Eunan O’Kane are also not wanted at Elland Road and could also be leaving in the coming days.

In total, Ekuban has made 21 appearances in the famous Leeds United jersey. During that period, he has managed a return of only two goals. They came in the 4-1 EFL Cup home victory against Port Vale at the start of last season, as well as the 2-1 win at home to Bolton Wanderers in March 2018. Highlights of that game can be seen in the video at the bottom of this page.

Bielsa has allowed several players to leave the Whites on loan already this summer. Pawel Cibicki, Lewie Coyle, Laurens De Bock, Hadi Sacko and Jay-Roy Grot are the highest profile of this, but individuals like Yosuke Ideguchi and Oriol Rey have also departed on temporary deals. Bielsa has a relatively small squad at his disposal at Elland Road, but it appears unlikely that any new faces will arrive prior to the Friday loan deadline. He is seemingly happy with his squad, which is understandable based on their strong start to the season under the Argentinian.
