Host of clubs interested in Middlesbrough starlet with Portsmouth favourites to sign

According to reports on TEAMtalk, a host of Championship clubs including Birmingham City, Bolton Wanderers and Ipswich Town are interested in bringing Middlesbrough starlet Marcus Tavernier to the club. However, it is League One Portsmouth who are leading the chase.

Marcus Tavernier is a huge talent and has been impressive in his cameos in the first team this season for Middlesbrough in both the Championship and in the Carabao Cup first and second round.

The 19-year old broke into the first team squad last year under then-manager Garry Monk, playing as a wide midfielder, and scored two goals in his first four games for the club, scoring away at Bournemouth in the EFL Cup, and scoring the winning goal against rivals Sunderland in the league.

He has featured three times in five games so far this campaign, and looks to be in and around the starting eleven going forwards under Tony Pulis. However, recent reports suggest Tavernier could be on his way out of the club on a season-long loan deal, which could aid his development.

However, after Middlesbrough missed out on prime target Yannick Bolasie, with the DR Congo international favouring a move to Aston Villa, Boro only have a handful of wingers at their disposal, and not much time to bring any more players in with the deadline fast approaching.

Marvin Johnson is reportedly in talks with Sheffield United, and it would be unlikely they would let another winger leave with such little time to find a replacement.
