Leeds United midfielder could move to League One side – but there are obstacles

Leeds United midfielder Eunan O’Kane is the subject of interest from League One side Charlton Athletic, the Yorkshire Evening Post have revealed.

Charlton manager and former Leeds midfielder Lee Bowyer revealed that the Addicks are interested in bringing in Leeds United midfielder Eunan O’Kane, but the deal will not be a simple one to complete due to the multiple stumbling blocks.

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has been keen to refurbish his squad after his arrival, as he looks to lead United on a promotion charge, and midfielder O’Kane has been one of the players strongly linked with a move away from Elland Road after a difficult last campaign.

Addicks manager Bowyer – who was charged for misconduct today regarding his outburst at referee James Linington after he awarded an 88th minute penalty to Peterborough United, causing them to lose 1-0 – told the South London Press that he was looking at bringing in the Irishman, but there could be obstacles.

He said:

“He is definitely someone we are interested in.

“But obviously he’s on a big wage, so Leeds are weighing up where he is going. Because of that, we can’t compete with his wage and the player wants to play in the Championship still.

“But yeah, he is a target and we have asked the question. They are keeping us in mind the later it goes.

“Is it going to happen straight away? No. We’ve spoken a couple of weeks ago now. They know we’re interested. They have said they will try and look after me if they can.

“At this present time he’s not coming down but it could be something happens later on.”

The midfielder is yet to feature for United this season, and will need to leave Elland Road if he wants consistent first team football this season.
