Stoke City in talks with Derby County over Tom Huddlestone loan move

Stoke City are interested in loaning Derby County’s Tom Huddlestone, according to the Daily Mail.

The Potters are keen on signing the experienced midfielder on loan with a view to a permanent deal. Initial discussions have been held between the two clubs.

The new Stoke boss, Gary Rowett, signed Huddlestone foe Derby last summer and now wants to reunite with him at the Brittania Stadium.

Huddlestone, who has made 4 caps for England, started his career at Derby after being released by their rivals Nottingham Forest at the age of 12. He rose through the youth ranks with the Rams and went onto play 95 times for them in his first spell at the club.

He was snapped up by Tottenham Hotspur in 2005 and spent 8 seasons playing for the Premier League side, racking up over 200 appearances. Huddlestone helped Spurs win the League Cup in 2008.

Hull City then signed him in August 2013 for a fee of around £5.25 million and he was a key player in Steve Bruce’s former side who got to the FA Cup final and Europa League in 2014. Huddlestone also helped Hull City gain promotion back to the top flight at the first time of asking in 2016 after they were relegated in 2015.

He left the Tigers last summer to move back to his boyhood club but after the Rams’ failure to get promoted last season, could Huddlestone make a loan switch to Stoke City? It is yet to be known how much game time he will get under Frank Lampard, so a move to the Potters would be ideal for him.
