After two seasons of top seven finishes, Cheltenham surprisingly slipped to a 17th place finish last season. Despite this disappointment the Robins have a very real chance of succeeding in finishing much higher this season. Manager Mark Yates has brought in some very good League 2 players with Asa Hall and ‘keeper Trevor Carson coming in alongside Paul Black and Andy Haworth – Carson and Hall in particular have impressed over the last few seasons for their respective clubs and look as though they will be very solid signings. Defensively, Cheltenham look strong with the likes of Steve Elliot, Troy Brown and Lee Vaughan whilst Yates has also brought in youngster Jack Deaman on a one-year-deal to encourage competition for places. The Robins are perhaps a striker short but, if this is rectified, there is no reason why Cheltenham can’t challenge the top seven.
