Leeds United fans are riding the crest of a short wave at the moment, with the Bielsa Effect™ already showing more than just signs of promise.
In the SkyBet Championship, Leeds United have blown away relegated Stoke City 3-1 and much-fancied Derby County 4-1 in a blitz of football. Both opponents were harried and pressed to the extent that they committed simple turnovers that led to Leeds United goals.
In the Carabao Cup First Round it was their SkyBet rivals Bolton Wanderers who came to Elland Road on Tuesday evening. The first-half was much the same as the two league wins, the Whites in seeming total ascendency. They turned around 2-0 to the good, with a Bolton improvement in the second-half evident as the game ended 2-1 to the home side.
Tonight eager Leeds fans awaited the draw for the second round, which pitted the Whites against another Northern side in what was a regionalised draw with games to be played the week commencing August 27.
It transpired that Leeds United were the 3rd team out of the Northern bag and that they would again play a league rival at home in Preston North End. In the same way that they faced Bolton, this will give the Whites the opportunity to put out feelers ahead of their first meeting in the league.
The news that Leeds had drawn Preston at Elland Road was something that wasn’t ever going to be missed on Twitter. Here’s what some Leeds United fans have said on the match-up between Whites and the Lilywhites:
Home to Preston

I only ask for one thing in a Cup Draw… Not a Team in the same League! 🙄
Preston it is though and a great chance to progress further.#lufc
