Leeds United closing in on loan deal for £8m rated Premier League defender

Leeds United decided not to jump in and overpay for a defender on deadline day, with Marcelo Bielsa deciding to leave any move for a new centre-back to the loan-market and news is beginning to emerge now, that the club may have found their man.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Juan Foyth was linked with a move to Leeds United earlier in the transfer window, largely through Marcelo Bielsa’s connections with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino.

It appears that Leeds United could well be set to sort out a potential deal for Foyth, that would take the Argentinian centre-back to West-Yorkshire during this season – according to TodoMercadoWeb.

Foyth has a Champions League appearance under his belt for Spurs and several cup outings, and the fact that the defender is yet to break into Spurs’ first-team squad would suggest he’s more than available for a loan away from Elland Road, particularly, with the fact that Toby Alderweireld is sticking around at Spurs for a while longer.

The defender began his career with Argentinian side Estudiantes before Spurs managed to convince the defender to move to the Premier League club for a fee of around £8m.

Foyth has featured in the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup as well, highlighting his promise, and if he was to move to Elland Road to link up with his countryman Marcelo Bielsa, he could really flourish. With the Argentine’s open, expansive style of play that he likes to instill into his team, it would give Foyth the chance to play as part of an exciting, ball-playing backline, rather than a rigid Championship side in which he wouldn’t be able to express himself and show his real potential.

A deal for Foyth would make sense, given the fact that Marcelo Bielsa has tried to sign the defender in the past and with defender struggling to feature for Tottenham Hotspur, since turning down PSG to move to North London last summer, he will want game time this season.
