Mallik Wilks is having quite the start for Doncaster Rovers this season. Three goals in three games and three wins for Doncaster and the fans of the South Yorkshire club raving about the talent. Wilks was tied down to a new deal at Leeds recently and they’ll be glad they did so.
The youngster was named the man of the match for Doncaster as they ran out winners over the weekend and he impressed again last night as they beat Scunthorpe 1-2 in the cup to knock their rivals out. Wilks bagged the first goal of the game again and his stock at the club is rising quicker than he could have imagined, Leeds United will be keeping a close eye on a player who has always been held in high regard at Elland Road.
Wilks had a good spell at Accrington Stanley last season and was their “super sub” during a time when they were picking up crucial points , a goal on his debut in the last minute to secure a point at Notts County was followed by good performances and most importantly the goals. The step up to League One was going to be a challenge but he’s adapted very well, not only getting the goals but being the player that has caught the eye so far for Donny.
Leeds have some very good young strikers at the club currently, Ryan Edmondson and Sam Dalby are both regarded very highly and add Wilks into the mix and the future looks very bright in that area. Leeds haven’t managed to produce and academy striker to note since Alan Smith, brief flashes of Dom Poleon and now Edmondson the closest things. Edmondson is very highly regarded by the club at just seventeen.
