Rotherham ‘hopeful’ of making loan signing before Ipswich game

Speaking to the Sheffield Star, Rotherham United manager Paul Warne is still confident the club can secure a loan signing before the weekend. The Millers failed to add any new recruits permanently before the 5pm summer transfer deadline, despite their best efforts.

Warne is especially keen to add another option to their central midfielder position, given how they have Will Vaulks and Matty Palmer in this area, and no other senior option. Youngster Ben Wiles did a decent job when coming off the bench versus Brentford, but Rotherham need a specialist player in this area to boost competition.

Warne says they did everything to try and add to their squad on Thursday, but are still hopeful a loan recruit can be added before entertaining Ipswich Town on Saturday,

“We’ve tried desperately to bring players in but other clubs haven’t been able to let lads out because they’ve not got really in.

“We’ve endeavoured to get people in, it’s disappointing but we’re hopeful on a loan in the next 24 hours.

“It’s difficult to recruit. We’re not an established Championship club, that’s what we’re trying to become.”

A heavy defeat on the opening day at Brentford perhaps highlighted the need to add to their squad as quickly as possible. Warne however is keen to not be too low after a defeat, nor too high following a victory. This weekend at home to Ipswich represents an opportunity for them to get three points on the board and banish the demons of last weekend.
