Sky Bet Championship side Bristol City have taken the mickey out of league rivals Aston Villa for not signing Joe Bryan, on their official Twitter page. It was reported earlier this week that Villa were in pole position to sign up the left back, but he has since linked up with Premier League new boys Fulham.
Bristol City have become famous for their use of the ‘GIF’, especially when it comes to goal celebrations. However, they have taken matters to a new level. Along with the caption ‘Premier League calling’, the ‘GIF’ shows Bryan on the phone laughing, before shooting off screen. It is all fun and games, but some Aston Villa fans have not taken too kindly to this little prank.
Many clubs were linked with Bryan at one stage or another over the summer. The likes of Middlesbrough and Leeds United were touted from the Championship, whilst Newcastle United in the top flight was another team linked with the highly-regarded left sided player. It was his performances in Bristol City’s EFL Cup run last season which seemingly propelled him to a new level.
There is seemingly no love lost between Bristol City and Aston Villa based on recent times. Lee Johnson made some choice comments following their 5-0 loss at Villa Park earlier this year. He himself says he is pleased that Bryan have moved onto the Premier League, saying he deserves it following his many years of service at Ashton Gate. He will now set his task on winning a spot in Slavisa Jokanovic’s starting eleven.
