Glasgow Rangers midfielder is on his way to Wigan Athletic

Rangers midfielder Josh Windass is on his way to Wigan Athletic, according to journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter.

The Latics are hoping to tie up an impressive coup for the Scottish Premier League midfielder before the transfer deadline at 5pm. Their fellow Championship side Ipswich Town are also keen but Wigan look to have won the race for him.

Windass, 23, was born in Hull but spent 10 years as a youngster at Huddersfield Town. He was released in 2012 and signed for non-league side Harrogate Railway Athletic. He was then snapped up by League Two side Accrington Stanley in 2013.

In his 3 seasons with Stanley, Windass scored a combined 23 goals and Rangers swooped to sign him in 2016. Although he does get plenty of game time with them, the rumours of him leaving never seem to go away.

Wigan started well to life back in the Championship with a 3-1 home win over Sheffield Wednesday. They are in confident mood going into their second fixture away to Aston Villa on Saturday and could have a new player in their ranks in Josh Windass.

Josh, who is the son of Hull City legend Dean Windass, has done well in Scotland but is now ready for the next chapter of his career in the Championship with Wigan. It will be very interesting to see how he gets on for the Latics.
