Reliable journalist gives update on Blackburn Rovers’ chase for League One star

Blackburn Rovers are one of many clubs to have been linked with a move for Peterborough United star man Marcus Maddison, but Lancashire Telegraph journalist Rich Sharpe has given a surprising update on the links.

Leeds United, Reading, West Brom and Aston Villa have all also been linked with a move for Marcus Maddison, but journalist Rich Sharpe states that he ‘has never been given any indication that Rovers have made a move for him’ in the Lancashire Telegraph liveblog. Blackburn Rovers have been strongly linked with a move for Maddison throughout the summer window.

Two unnamed Championship clubs have reportedly triggered Maddison’s £2.5m release clause, but it seems that despite links, Blackburn Rovers are not one of them.

The playmaker is expected to move today, as he looks to seal a move to the Championship. Maddison was placed on the transfer list earlier in the summer, after chairman Darragh MacAnthony honoured his agreement he made with Maddison, where he would be placed on the transfer list at the end of the 2017/18 season if Posh failed to achieve promotion.

Blackburn Rovers could yet move for Maddison. They have failed in their £4m offer for Queens Park Rangers playmaker Luke Freeman, and will have to look elsewhere if they don’t increase their offer for the midfielder.

Maddison provides a cheaper option for Rovers, and will be hungry to prove himself in the Championship, after being one of League One’s best players for the past three seasons. A loan deal could be completed for the midfielder if a deal can not be completed before 5pm tonight, but Maddison will be determined to seal a permanent move away from London Road.
