Leeds United transfer interest in Besic severely dented

There is much talk of Leeds United being in the market for players this transfer deadline day, chief amongst these is the rumour of Everton’s Mo Besic tipping up at Elland Road.

It’s not unusual for players to be linked to any club, Leeds United are no exception to this. Whilst the Whites are somewhat stuffed to the gills with midfield players, a player of the calibre of Mo Besic is not to be sniffed at.

However, and with local journalists saying that there are no expectations of business at Elland Road today, here’s further news that will blacken Whites’ moods today.

Here Andy Hunter, Merseyside football correspondent for the Guardian, says that it looks like Besic will be in his way, but not to Elland Road. Instead, the 31-cap Bosnian midfielder is on his way to the Riverside with Middlesbrough paying a fee of £4million.

Besic is accustomed to Teesside, having spent a half-season loan there last season. During his stint at the Riverside, Besic made 15 appearances for Boro, scoring once and providing one assist.

Leeds United have had a decent enough transfer window so far, focusing on quality incomings over quantity for a change. Season-long loan deals for Chelsea duo Jamal Blackman and Lewis Baker and Manchester City’s Jack Harrison have been done.

On top  of those deals are the permanent captures of Barry Douglas and Patrick Bamford, the latter a £7million arrival from Middlesbrough.  Now it appears that Leeds United and Middlesbrough are involved in another tug-o-war, this time for Everton’s Besic. To Leeds’ detriment it appears to be a test of strength where the Whites are destined to end in second place.
