Aston Villa want to hijack Bristol City’s deal for Chelsea defender

Aston Villa are looking to hijack the Bristol City’s deal to sign Chelsea’s Jay Dasilva on loan according to a report from the Mirror via the Bristol Post.

The 20-year-old defender started at Luton Town but as a 13-year-old he was snapped by Chelsea. While he has won several honours with the Blues on a youth level, he is yet to make a senior appearance for them. He instead made his competitive debut on loan at Charlton Athletic and has made a combined 48 appearances for them over two loan spells. He was even voted as their Player of the Year last season.

And for the longest time, it seemed like Dasilva was going to sign for Bristol City. The Robins are set to lose Joe Bryan today but had worked hard to make sure they had a replacement ready to come in. And with Dasilva playing so well in Sky Bet League One last year, it seemed like he was ready to make the step up. But now Aston Villa are moving in and are hoping to hijack the deal.

In an ironic twist of fate, Villa had been trying to sign Bryan and that deal was already to be completed until he decided to head to Fulham instead. That left the West Midlanders needing a left-back and are now looking to sign the player that was set to head to Ashton Gate as Bryan’s replacement. Whether they can hijack the deal now it’s so close to being completed remains to be seen.
