Sheffield United to rival Ipswich Town in race for League One star

Sheffield United are interested in Shrewsbury Town midfielder Jon Nolan, as per a report by the Yorkshire Post.

The Blades are still in the hunt for some more signings before the transfer window shuts next Thursday as Chris Wilder aims to further bolster his squad.

They will have to face competition from their Championship rivals Ipswich Town to sign Jon Nolan. Their new manager, Paul Hurst, has managed him at both Grimsby Town and Shrewsbury and now wants to sign him for the third time.

Jon Nolan has become a man in-demand this summer after an impressive season with Shrewsbury in League One. He joined the League One side last summer from Chesterfield and played 55 games for them in all competitions, scoring 10 goals.

He is now keen to test himself at a higher level and has handed in a transfer request to force through a move away from Shrewsbury Town. The 26-year-old is no longer training with John Askey’s side.

Sheffield United are being linked with a move to bring him to Bramall Lane. The Blades have been busy in this transfer market and have signed Dean Henderson on loan from Manchester United, John Egan from Brentford, Kean Bryan from Manchester City, Ben Woodburn on loan from Liverpool and striker David McGoldrick on a free transfer.

It appears likely now that Jon Nolan will be playing in the second tier next season. His next destination is yet to be known but he will not be short of potential suitors.
