FACTFILE – Who is Leeds United’s midfield target?

In recent weeks Leeds United have been linked with Peterborough United attacking midfielder Marcus Maddison. Who exactly his he and what has he done in his career?

Marcus Maddison was born in Durham, County Durham, just south of his first professional club, Newcastle United. While at Newcastle United he endured a loan spell at local club Blyth Spartans. Following Blyth Spartans, he returned to Newcastle United but was unfortunately released.

Scottish club St Johnstone signed Maddison on a free transfer. He failed to make any sort of an impact while in Scotland and once again got released.

National League side, Gateshead signed Maddison on a free transfer and he went on to have an impressive time at the club. He made 37 appearances for the north east side, scoring 13 goal and picking up five assists. He also received two red card in that time which is quite surprising.

This impressive spell at Gateshead saw him earn a £284k move to League One Peterborough United. Ever since joining Peterborough he’s set League One alight and gained some serious interest from several Championship clubs. He’s made 177 appearances for Peterborough in all competitions. During that time he’s scored a giant 42 goals and picked up 61 assists which is absolutely remarkable. Especially from an attacking midfield position.

The fee for Marcus Maddison hasn’t been discussed yet. Transfermarkt.com are currently valuing the Englishman at £675k but this doesn’t take into account the inevitable increase in his fee due to him being English. We could be seeing a fee in the millions of pounds should he leave Peterborough.
