Strong Rovers squad to play Stanley

Blackburn Rovers manager Gary Bowyer has a near fit squad to choose from for tonight’s friendly against James Beattie’s Accrington Stanley.

New signing Chris Brown and left back Tommy Spurr are not available as both players have been carrying injuries and have just returned to full training, while Rudy Gestede has been on international duty with Benin and therefore misses out.

According to the Blackburn Rovers website, Bowyer has already said that,

“It might be a bit early for Browny and Tommy because they’ve only just joined back in the football. But they’ll certainly look to feature on Saturday as will Rudy.”

Rovers have been warm weather training this week in Portugal, and played a behind doors friendly against Freamunde, where a Jordan Rhodes penalty helped Blackburn to a one-nil victory.

Stanley manager Beattie is looking forward to facing a club that he supported as a child, and is quoted as saying on the Accrington website,

“It’s a surreal situation for me to be managing Accrington Stanley and having Blackburn Rovers come down for a pre-season game!”
