Swansea and Leeds interested in Brentford star

According to West London Sport, Swansea have set their sights on Brentford defensive midfielder, Ryan Woods. The Welsh side are said to have held initial talks with the London side about signing the 24-year-old.

The Swans, who will be looking to bounce back into the Premier League at the first time of asking after their relegation from the top flight last season, are looking to strengthen their midfield after the departures of South Korea international Sung-Yong Ki who has signed for Newcastle as well as Spanish central midfielder Roque Mesa who has been picked up by Sevilla for around £6m, in an attempt to lower their wage bill.

Leeds are also rumoured to be in the running to sign the midfielder, though that would most likely only happen if the rumours are true about Ronaldo Vieira being set to leave the Yorkshire club, with Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa seeing the current Brentford midfielder as a very capable replacement.

Ryan Woods, 24, has earned rave reviews since he was picked up by Brentford from Shrewsbury Town in the summer of 2015 for around £1m, and many see him as being one of the best defensive midfielders in the division.

The Shrewsbury youth graduate has made 127 appearances for the West London club, scoring three goals and assisting ten.

Should Woods complete the transfer to south Wales, it would be another shrewd bit of business that we have come accustomed to seeing Brentford do, buying players from the lower leagues for cheap and selling them on a couple of seasons later for a much greater fee.
